In the past week or so, I've become much more confident in this pregnancy. While I know things can always go wrong and I'm not going to go broadcasting it on facebook or anything, I feel less guarded in this secret. As a result, the list of people who know is growing:
Friends:
- Marian
- Presian
- Mallie
Work:
- Bruce
- Mary Ann
- Layne
- Carrie (one of the parents who is also pregnant! I wouldn't have told her otherwise, but she's 6 weeks ahead of me)
Other:
- The head of the field ed office
- The pastor and associate pastor at the church where I hope to work this summer
- My ethics preceptor
- One of my Christian ed professors
- The registrar of the div. school (well, he will know after I meet with him tomorrow)
In addition, a few strangers know, including the guy who works at a tea shop. I asked him if he knew anything about pregnancy-safe teas, and he said he needed to go get his wife. Turns out that she's 5 weeks pregnant and had just been researching that. We ended up talking for almost an hour!
There are some notable people left off the above list. First of all, my boss. I might end up having to tell her (she's the only one in the office who doesn't know), but I really don't want to tell her yet. Secondly, other than P, none of my div. school friends know. Thirdly, our entire families! That's right, all of the above people know and we haven't even told our families. I feel bad about this, but there is a reason behind it.
OK, well there's no real reason why we've waited to tell C's parents. We wanted to wait until after the first u/s, and I've been fine to tell them for a week now. We might tell them sometime this week, but I'll leave it up to C to decide. My family is a bit more complicated. Mainly, I don't trust my mom to keep her mouth shut until 2nd tri, when we plan on letting extended family know. Plus, she's called me about pregnancy related things (e.g. go to the dentist or the baby will die) without even knowing I'm pregnant, and I'm anxious enough as it is. SO, the plan with them is to tell my dad when he comes up to visit at the end of the month and tell her over the phone immediately after. I would have liked to tell her in person, but she refused to come up with him and his mother.
March 1st is my next appointment, and they'll do the doppler (and maybe another u/s if I decide to do the 1st tri screen). Assuming everything goes well, I may start telling friends at div. school on the 2nd, will definitely tell my boss that week (if I haven't already by then), and will announce it at the parent meeting on March 7th. So that's the plan for now.
